Stage 2

Welcome to Stage 2 2022….

After such a difficult time last year, we are looking forward to a more settled year working with you and your child, providing a year full of wonderful learning experiences.

School packs are now being distributed to students who have paid. Please remember that this payment also covers whole school incursions through-out the year, all school books, plastic folders, stationery etc… The cost for the pack is $80.

Please find all relevant information regarding Stage 2 below. The teachers are really looking forward to a terrific year. Our classrooms are taking shape, incorporating the ‘Colour our World’ theme. In 2022 we will allow the wind to fill our wings and take us on an exciting journey.

In Stage 2, we are working towards the idea of being in the GREEN ZONE. We know that we are in the GREEN ZONE when we feel some of the following emotions… happy, calm, relaxed, ready to learn, thankful, proud, open to listening to others, focused. This is because it is important to develop strategies to self-regulate, especially if we find ourselves in a different zone.

Appointments - Please phone the office if you wish to make an appointment to speak to a teacher. A suitable time can then be arranged. If you have information that is required for the day, please write a note and forward it to the class teacher.

School Pack - Please pay for your child’s school pack as soon as possible. It has everything they require from pencils and glue sticks to whiteboard markers and books to do their schoolwork in. This equipment remains at school for school use. The school pack also includes K-6 incursions held throughout the year (stage-based incursions and excursions are an additional cost). For the first child it is $80, the second child $60, the third child $40 and for every child after that, it is free!

Crunch and Sip - Students participate in “Crunch and Sip” each day in the morning session. There is no set time for this, as it is scheduled at an appropriate time for the class. Students are only permitted to have fresh fruit or vegetables and/or water. The portions, however, need to be small so that they are consumed quickly and class disruptions are minimised. Please peel and/or cut fruit into quarters/eighths/slinky as this is more manageable for students to eat. It is best if it is kept in a separate container, not packed with recess and lunch.

School uniforms - Please label all items brought to school by your child. We ask that students not wear nail polish or jewellery to school (sleepers/studs and watches/Fitbits excluded) and that they adhere to the uniform as close as possible. This includes black shoes (no bright shoelaces please). Ribbons or bows in the hair should be school colours – navy, blue or white.

Donations welcome

Now that we are in the winter months and teachers are trying to keep germs at bay, we would appreciate any donations of tissues, hand sanitiser or hand soaps as we go through these very quickly!

Money Procedures - All money sent to school should be in a labelled envelope and handed in at the school office.

Absences - The Department of School Education requires a note to explain all absences within 7 days. If your child is absent you will receive a SMS notifying you that your child has been marked absent and you can reply with reasons why. Alternatively, please send a note to school with your child upon returning to school. If your child is absent more than 2 days in a row, please consider obtaining a doctor’s certificate to explain the absence.

Public Speaking Competition

Our annual Blackwell Public Speaking Competition for students in Years 3-6 is here again.  The Mt Druitt Minchinbury Public Speaking Competition will be held Term 4 Week 3, 27th October 2022.

Topic: Year 3 - Sustainable Me… 2 minutes

Topic: Year 4 - My biggest concern for the future…       2 minutes

Two students from each grade class will be selected to participate in our Blackwell Public Speaking Competition 2022.

Class Schedule for Stage 2/3 Term 3

NB: We understand that public speaking is not for everyone but having a go and participating in class competitions is designed to be a positive experience. Our expectation is that all students will plan, prepare and present a speech.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of your child's education, please contact the office to make an appointment with the class teacher.
