It is our pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great term. We are excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected and part of the Blackwell Public School family.

Please join our closed Facebook page to be kept up to date with what is happening on Stage 2 throughout the year – 2023 Stage 2 Blackwell PS. If you need to contact your child’s class teacher please phone the school or send an email, see email addresses below.

The teachers are really looking forward to a terrific year. Our classrooms are taking shape, incorporating the ‘Keys To Success’ theme. In 2023, we are expecting our students to unlock many new opportunities for learning success!

In Stage 2, we are working towards the idea of being in the GREEN ZONE. We know that we are in the GREEN ZONE when we feel some of the following emotions… happy, calm, relaxed, ready to learn, thankful, proud, open to listening to others, focused. This is because it is important to develop strategies to self-regulate, especially if we find ourselves in a different zone.

Appointments - Please phone the office if you wish to make an appointment to speak to a teacher. A suitable time can then be arranged. If you have information that is required for the day, please write a note and forward it to the class teacher.

School Pack - Please pay for your child’s school pack as soon as possible. It has everything they require from pencils and glue sticks to whiteboard markers and books to do their schoolwork in. This equipment remains at school for school use. The school pack also includes K-6 incursions held throughout the year (stage-based incursions and excursions are an additional cost). For the first child it is $80, the second child $60, the third child $40 and for every child after that, it is free!

Crunch and Sip - Students participate in “Crunch and Sip” each day in the morning session. There is no set time for this, as it is scheduled at an appropriate time for the class. Students are only permitted to have fresh fruit or vegetables and/or water. The portions, however, need to be small so that they are consumed quickly and class disruptions are minimised. Please peel and/or cut fruit into quarters/eighths/slinky as this is more manageable for students to eat. It is best if it is kept in a separate container, not packed with recess and lunch.

School uniforms - Please label all items brought to school by your child. We ask that students not wear nail polish or jewellery to school (sleepers/studs and watches/Fitbits excluded) and that they adhere to the uniform as close as possible. This includes black shoes (no bright shoelaces please). Ribbons or bows in the hair should be school colours – navy, blue or white.

Donations Welcome - Thank you to the parents who have already sent in tissues and hand soap. Each year we ask every student to contribute one box of tissues and one bottle of hand soap to their classrooms. They are greatly appreciated.

Money Procedures - All money sent to school should be in a labelled envelope and handed in at the school office.

Absences - The Department of School Education requires a note to explain all absences within 7 days. If your child is absent you will receive a SMS notifying you that your child has been marked absent and you can reply with reasons why. Alternatively, please send a note to school with your child upon returning to school. If your child is absent more than 2 days in a row, please consider obtaining a doctor’s certificate to explain the absence.

Headphones - This year we are asking if you could please purchase a pair of cheap headphones for your child. These will be used with iPads and school computers. The headphones can’t be wireless as they may not connect to various devices. Please label the headphones and place them in a large zip lock bag for safe keeping. Your child’s headphones will be kept at school and stored in their tote tray.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of your child's education, please contact the office to make an appointment with the class teacher.
